A Lesson Taught by a Two-Year-Old

Posted on June 28th, 2017.

As I was sitting in the airport over the weekend, a sweet sight caught my eye. If you’ve ever been to a large international airport, you know it is nonstop activity. People are walking, running, yelling, talking on their phones and having conversations about the excitement of the trip they are taking. It can be loud; people will bump into you; and people are completely focused on their situation. It’s a zoo!

As I sat waiting for our turn to board, this scene caught my eye.

A little girl around two years old was sitting in her stroller. Her head was tilted slightly to the left; her eyes were closed; and her mouth was hanging wide open. She was sound asleep! In the middle of the noise and hustle around her, she was completely oblivious.

This thought came to mind. That is peace!

That is the kind of peace we should have when we rest in Christ. The world around us may be spinning out of control. Our lives may be surrounded by complete chaos with circumstances we can’t change. Our hearts may be broken and our world feels like it is falling apart. But God! God can give us peace that truly passes all understanding so that in the middle of the mess, we rest in Him. We trust Him. We are not bothered by the things around us.

That is peace!

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27
