Restoring the Wounded

For real?

Heading home from Sacramento, California, after speaking for a Memorial Day event, I was still in my dress clothes, having rushed directly to the airport. When I approached the TSA agent manning the X-ray, he looked at me and said, “Take off your coat.”

Being a TSA precheck flyer, I do not have to remove my shoes or coat. I said politely, “Ok, but as a precheck traveler, I thought I might not need to remove my coat.”

He repeated himself, “I told you to take off the coat!”

I said, ” Ok, no problem!”

Then I was stunned when he looked at my military Purple Heart award and unit badges of the Navy Special Warfare Command on my lapel, that I wore for the Memorial Day event and said with a swagger, “What’s that stuff on your chest?”

I said, “Excuse me?”

He responded, “I said, what’s that junk on your coat?”

Almost shaking with inner rage I looked at him in disbelief. “That ‘junk’ is a military honor called the Military Order of the Purple Heart for injuries received in combat.”

He then proceeded to further insult me with, “Well, either take off the coat or take that crap off your coat before entering the X-ray!”

I then proceeded to “inform him” saying, “Your ignorance is only exceeded by your arrogance, and you are why we have to endure these ridiculous security checks!”

If Americans understood the price of freedom paid, far beyond my tiny sacrifice compared to those who gave it all, we would never again find ourselves defending what we have lost through dishonor of the freedom paid in treasure and, most of all, in blood.

Of all people, a rock group called Naughty Boy said it clearly, “If I lose myself, I lose it all.”

God save America!

Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God.  Honor the king.
